Building positive outcomes for isolated Aboriginal children, families, and the Gainmara Birrilee Preschool.
Murra in Murra (Hand in Hand) was a collaborative partnership with Gainmara Birrilee Preschool in Brewarrina.Brewarrina is located in north-western NSW, approximately 800 kilometres southwest of Brisbane and 800 kilometres northwest of Sydney.
Gainmara Birrilee Preschool and Contact worked together to find ways to further improve access to early intervention, health, wellbeing, and professional support programs that responded to the needs of remote Aboriginal children and their families connected with the preschool.
Gainmara Birrilee Preschool was established in 1974 as a Save the Children Fund preschool and was returned to the Brewarrina community in 1992 to support self-determination.
The community vision for Gainmara Birrilee is to promote Aboriginal culture and strengthen children’s awareness, pride, and connection to their Aboriginal culture and heritage.
